“How our own in-house exhibition was a success”

Gert Lathouwers, organiser of The Communicatieplaneet, chairman of Unizo Herentals and sales manager of communication group comprising WIZZ Communicatiemakers, explains:

What exactly is the Communicatieplaneet?
Gert: “An in-house exhibition for entrepreneurs and managers. We target people who make decisions about communication in their companies. The fair offers a professional one-stop shop for all their communication needs. Exhibitors are communication companies representing every stage of the marketing process. To my knowledge, such a niche fair didn’t exist prior to Friday, 2 October 2015.”

Why did you choose to hold an in-house exhibition?
Gert: “Because it fosters a closer personal contact. The exhibitors can demonstrate things easily, while all the pieces of the puzzle fit neatly together for the visitors. It is a fully immersive experience for all the senses. All attendees were able to swap ideas informally during the networking breakfast, and the seminars provided visitors with still more professional insight into current topics in the sector.”

Was it easy to find a venue?
Gert: “It turned out to be quite a feat to stay in our home base of Herentals. But I eventually found an ideal space in the industrial buildings on the Atealaan. At first, I had my doubts. Space was not the problem, but would we be able to overcome all the technical challenges? And how could we transform the chilly production hall into a pleasant exhibition venue with a great atmosphere? Well, we definitely succeeded, with the help of A.S. Technology. See for yourself in this video. It is truly amazing what you can do with trussing, textiles and lighting.”

Admission to the fair was free. Wasn’t this hugely expensive?
Gert: “Organising a marketing convention on a budget was indeed a challenge. There is a lot involved, such as catering, exhibition stands, lighting, electricity, Wi-Fi, audio-visual support of speakers, and so on. Fortunately, I could rely on A.S. Technology, our partner for the fair. They provided me with advice and a hands-on approach. This allowed me to focus entirely on the organisation of the fair. A.S. Sounds good! Is a second edition on the cards?
Gert: “Whether there will be a next edition depends on the exhibitors’ survey. One thing is certain, however: if there is a second edition, it will again happen with the support of A.S Technology. I would have never been able to put together this first edition without their expert advice and efficient approach.”
